Change your exercise routine frequently for best results

"People whose routines are primarily made up of strength-training or cardio will also see a plateau. Sooner or later they have to change their routines up so that they continue to see results."
"Like anything new, your body will definitely respond faster to a class that offers a constant variety of moves."
"It's less about burning more calories while doing the exercise and more about building the muscles to burn more efficiently, so that even while you are resting, you are burning more calories."

Angie,

I enjoyed taking your Definity class. I liked the way the exercises flowed seamlessly one after the other. This flow made it seem like a short exercise class - the time flew by! The exercise intensity seemed just about right with weights on - not too challenging, yet not too easy either. The ab work was the best part for me - the exercises were unique and I really felt them working! I have exercised since I was 15, and I could feel the ab work the next day! Thank you again - enjoyed the hour getaway to do something productive.

I found the Definity class to be a very challenging low impact class. The concept standing leg exercises are sort of like the barre warm-up in a dance class, but these exercises are different from what you'd do in a dance class ……….. Definity is really creative toning exercises that you've never seen before.

P.S. My abs are still a little sore!

Angie,

The Definity class was a great workout. Right from the beginning, it kept my heart rate up without experiencing that hard-to-breathe feeling. The use of repetitions, weight and range of motion allow you to start at your fitness level and move up each time to constantly challenge yourself. Additionally, the segmenting of working the right v. left sides and arms, legs and abs provide variety and a localized recovery period before the next set. The day after the workout, my muscles felt long and lean.

Thanks for hosting the class, Angie!

Best,

Justine Madonna

Thank you----

Tao Te Ching and Ashtanga Yoga

TAO TE CHING VERSE 1 EMPOWERED SURRENDER
The Tao Te Ching is a great treasure house of Chinese wisdom written in the 6th century B.C., a classic work of spiritual enlightenment.
The Tao Te Ching provides the basis for the philosophical school of Taoism, which is an important pillar of Chinese thought. Taoism teaches that there is one undivided truth at the root of all things. It literally means:
tao (the way)
te (strength/virtue)
ching (scripture)

BECK TRANSLATION
The Way that can be described is not the absolute Way;
the name that can be given is not the absolute name.
Nameless it is the source of heaven and earth; named it is the mother of all things.

Whoever is desireless, sees the essence of life.
Whoever desires, sees its manifestations.
These two are the same, but what is produced has names.
They both may be called the cosmic mystery:
from the cosmic to the mystical is the door to the essence of all life.

Practice allowing everything to be the way it is.
Relax
Let go
Allow
And recognize that some of your desires are about how you think your world should be rather than how it is in that moment
Judge less and listen more
Do not be a bully and try and force your own agenda.

Do you think you might have a person in your life who is a control freak, or do you fear you might bulldoze people into doing what you want, when you want it done?
Dwight D Eisenhower sums up it up best with this quote
Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.

Here are some things to ponder about control freaks.

UK family celebrity life coach Suzy Greaves created this list of scenarios that are good indicators that you exhibit signs of being a control freak at home.
1 Your child comes up with a great idea for a project at school. You say: 'That's great but I've got a better one!'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 If your partner disagrees with you, you get very annoyed and argue your point until you're blue in the face.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3 Your favorite phrase is: 'You're doing it all wrong, give it to me!'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4 For your annual holiday, you decide where you're going, book the flights, hotel and pack the bags.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5 After a night out with your friends, you feel irritated. They were moaning on about the same things. You told them what to do last time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6 You always have possession of the remote control.

We have all dealt with a supervisor at work who manages by force. I really like this quote from Dwight D Eisenhower: You don't lead by hitting people over the head-that's assault, not leadership.

Ron Lindeboom, Creativecow.net, wrote about doing business with controlling clients and here are a few signs of control freaks:
What Are the Tell-Tale Signs of a Control Freak?
It is fairly easy to spot a control freak in your business. They give off a long list of predictable signs that leave as indelible an impression as an alley cat scent marking its territory. Though there are many more signs that we won't cover here for the sake of brevity, some of these signs include:

They never seem to want to listen to you.
They regularly and with no regard interrupt you in mid-sentence.
Your ideas are not welcome, except when they agree 100% with those of the control freak.
They call you at inopportune times and will not get off the phone, even when you tell them you have another client present.
They will drop you like a rock if you correct them and are proven to be correct.
They will drop you like a rock if you are better than them in their field of endeavor.
They regularly complain that you are over charging them. (Never relent on this point and keep them on the clock or my only words to you are "Heaven help you.")
They will spend hours (if you let them) drowning you in trivia and detail on ideas and systems that will have you wanting to pull out your hair and send you running screaming from the room.
They will cheat you if they can get away with it and will always have brilliant reasonings and justifications as to why you deserve this.
They will spend way more than they owe you to beat you in court. Remember: They are control freaks.
Lastly, they know everything. Just ask them.
This list is in no way comprehensive but you get the point.

Life is like a mirror. If you frown at it, it frowns back. If you smile at it, it returns the greeting.
- Herbert Samuels

So many people spend so much time at work every week,. There are signs to watch for when choosing a position. Please be reminded that you are going to spend 40 or 50 hours per week with your boss and co-workers. Here are some words of wisdom about control freaks.

The Source: Cheryl Cran writing on the Brazen Careerist blog.
The Takeaway: Cran acknowledges that business people can take their desire for control too far, but she asserts that, in moderation, being a control freak is actually a positive attribute. Why?

1. Control freaks control their thoughts. This means they know what they want and can focus on their goals without distracting what-ifs and how-abouts.
2. Control freaks actually execute: no dreamy planning and little follow through for them.
3. Control freaks don’t wait for things to happen to them (can’t control luck and coincidence). Instead, they take positive action to get the things they want.
4. Focus, focus, focus.
5. Stability during change: team members can be sure that control freaks have their eye on the ball (or all the balls in the air) and this can make it easier for everyone to get through periods of change with a minimum of stress.

As you begin the journey through the 81 verses of the TAO TE CHING with me, I would like to share this prayer.

Dear God,
If it be in accordance with your will,I pray that this new age in human historybe a time of spiritual renaissance,a "second Enlightenment" that will heighten valuesand help everyone to realize their true purpose in life.I pray for peace and justice, and love and light.I pray for an abundance of beauty, truth and goodnessin the lives of all the inhabitants of this troubled world.May there be harmony, sustainability, and evolutionary progress.Thank you for this gift of consciousness, dear God.Amen - Steve McIntosh

Yoga is a great way to get in touch with the present moment. I have been studying Ashtanga Yoga for a few decades now and I would like to share a few Yoga-isms with you from the father of Ashtanga Yoga.

Quotes from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, 1915-2009
"Do your practice and all is coming."

"If we practice the science of yoga, which is useful to the entire human community and which yields happiness both here and hereafter - if we practice it without fail, we will then attain physical, mental, and spiritual happiness, and our minds will flood towards the Self”

"Yoga is possible for anybody who really wants it. Yoga is universal.
Yoga is not mine. But don't approach yoga with a business mind -
looking for worldly gain. If you want to be near God, turn your mind
toward God, and practice yoga."- Sri K Pattabhi Jois

THE POWERFUL ALPHA STATE

THE POWERFUL ALPHA STATE

The Alpha state of brain wave activity is a state of mind which is relaxed, but aware.
At the alpha state the brainwaves run at about 8 to 12 cycles per seconds or hertz.
The rest of our waking moments for the most part are in beta, the 'normal' state of 13-25 hertz.

A very creative and even more relaxed state is the theta state which is even slower than alpha, and an even deeper sense of relaxation. It is at the theta state that much creativity lies in our brains. Theta brainwaves are typically of even greater amplitude and slower frequency. This frequency range is normally between 5 and 8 cycles a second. A person who has taken time off from a task and begins to daydream is often in a theta brainwave state.

The Delta state is the brainwave activity we achieve during sleep. Here the brainwaves are of the greatest amplitude and slowest frequency. They typically range between 1.5 to 4 cycles per second.

The Alpha State is where we want to be as often as possible. Jesie Len Gallagher, BSW, CH, CI writes;
However it is achieved, the therapeutic benefits are similar. When in the alpha state, one is lifted to a place inside where there is peace and order, where all is well and makes sense. When the human system is relaxed, the natural harmony in consciousness can take over, and the inner light can put things in place.

William Dorich, writer of five books writes about Western over-stimulation and the need to disconnect from it……
Our over analytical approach to realty and addiction to over stimulation makes it difficult for Western Civilization to get a grip on the concept of meditation, let alone practice it. The good news is that we are naturally predisposed to enter into an Alpha state every 90 minutes of the day. However, we grab a Starbucks instead of a siesta and press on. As one Beta wave compounds on top of another, it makes it increasingly difficult to disengage at the end of the day. When our head finally does hit the pillow at night, we skip the Alpha phase and move directly into Theta or Delta. Since Alpha is where the rejuvenation process takes place, we may find ourselves waking up exhausted simply to start the entire process over again, consequently developing a chronic stress pattern that can lead to diminished vitality and depression.

There are three ways to enter the alpha state: MEDITATION, YOGA, AND RELAXATION.

Meditation— Meditation has been used for years to achieve the tranquil state of mind and to stay in it for longer durations of time. During meditation, you relax and calm the mind, and focus on your breathing and letting go of thoughts. Natural healing occurs during this deep relaxation. It promotes regeneration, youthfulness, joy and expansion.

Yoga-- Yoga practitioners are aware of the connection between both mind and body. The pranayama, or rhythmic breathing, allows for integration of the mind and body using the breath as the catalyst. At the end of a session, a relaxed meditative state allows one to absorb the full benefit of the discipline as one prepares to re-enter the world of daily activities.

Practicing yoga can have a major impact on many aspects of your life. Practicing different poses can help improve flexibility, movement of joints, and add muscle tone. Yoga also has a profound effect on your mood. Yoga helps to decrease anxiety, depression, and worrying and it helps to increase concentration, memory, and well-being. Adding yoga to your life can help build your immune system and yoga can increase your energy.

Relaxation--- Relaxation brings health and well being to your body. It allows for controlled thought, which produces more productive, clear, and calm decisions. You feel more of a sense of peace, and feelings of wellness, which allows happiness and true contentment to abound in your life. Relaxation is a conduit for intuition, and you will be able to make decisions effortlessly. Relationships of all kinds will be easier to manage, and everything will flow more easily.

You can attain the Alpha State every day by meditating on your chakras daily.
There are seven chakras – each one associated with the primary colors.
This is the chakra meditation I use daily.
Chakras

1. ROOT CHAKRA: BASE OF SPINE: KUNDALINI CHAKRA. Starting point of the body’s life energy and seat of basic molecular health and balance. GROUNDING AND ABUNDANCE- RED
2. PELVIS PLEXUS: SACRAL CHAKRA. Origin of erotic passion and biological creation. CREATIVITY AND SEXUALITY- ORANGE
3. SOLAR PLEXUS: NAVAL CHAKRA. Center point of physical and spiritual balance; sense of self and inner calm. POWER - YELLOW
4. CARDIAC PLEXUS: HEART CHAKRA. Center of compassion; can infuse all other chakras with this aspect. LOVE AND COMPASSION - GREEN
5. VAGUS NERVE AND CERVICAL GANGLION: THROAT CHAKRA. Communication and self expression – THROAT- BLUE
6. PINEAL GLAND: MENTAL CHAKRA. Third Eye, PERCEPTION- INDIGO
7. CROWN CHAKRA- PITUITARY GLAND: SPIRITUAL CHAKRA. Top of head; sense of perspective and unity; symbolized by the Thousand Petaled Lotus. SPIRIT AND HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS – PURPLE OR WHITE

Achievement of the Alpha state is most beneficial for optimal health. To your good health!

Be Someone

I want to share this with all of you -
It is truly inspiring (in spirit)
Be Someone
Be someone who listens, and you will be heard. Be someone who cares,
and you will be loved. Be someone who gives, and you will be blessed. Be
someone who comforts, and you will know peace.

Be someone who genuinely seeks to understand, and you will be wise. Be
someone kind, someone considerate, and you will be admired. Be someone
who values truth, and you will be respected. Be someone who takes
action, and you will move life forward.

Be someone who lifts others higher, and your life will be rich. Be someone
filled with gratitude, and there will be no end to the things for which
you’ll be thankful.

Be someone who lives with joy, with purpose, as your own light brightly
shines. Be, in every moment, the special someone you are truly meant to
be.

– Ralph Marston
